Sean took Laura and Harry out this morning to look at properties with Judy from the relocation office. They had a handfull of homes to look at that had been handpicked to meet our requirements. Siobhan and I were both feeling a little under the weather having come down with colds already!!! We opted to stay at home and try to relax a little…
Sean called often to give me updates and was taking photographs of course on the digital so we could look back at later and discuss. They took a break and came home for lunch after which had 2 more properties to look at on the list and feeling slightly better Siobhan and I went along. Both homes were in the suburb of Langley which was actually one of the suburbs that Sean had wanted to avoid. Both houses were just beautiful, as well as spacious, with nice big backyards. The decision that had to be made though was did we just want to live in the bubble of the house or did we move to England to soak in the Englishness of the place we live so to speak?? As the moment we kind of entered the suburb of Langley we felt we could have been anywhere, St Marys even, and even though there is nothing wrong with that I thought I have just flown thousands of miles from home to experience another country and that is exactly what I plan on doing! If that means a smaller house, less backyard, further away from big shopping centres (our Westfield shopping days are over for now – that might be a once a year outing – and I’m not joking) then so be it. We are going to soak up the english atmosphere and I’m sure Sean will do his share of soaking up the english beer too lol…..
Day 2 of house hunting Sean stayed home and awaited delivery of laptop with Harry. It was just the girls and I. Judy took me back to two of the homes that Sean had liked and a couple of extras as well. The first property that Sean had on his list as a possible I gave the thumbs down almost immediately!! It was like a bachelors pad, the only room I even warmed to was the large open loungeroom which had multiple windows letting in an awesome amount of light, from there it went downhill, apart from the fact that it wasn’t on ground floor, there was no front OR BACKYARD for the rugrats, it had the narrowest staircase you’ve ever come across – which I tripped up with Laura stepping on my heels, doesn’t leave a lasting impression. It just screamed bachelor pad, or apartment of a couple of uni students, no thanks… nice try Sean!!! Didn’t like the area of the High Wycombe property, that was a no straight away. Finally made my decision with a lovely home in suburb called Burnham, one that Sean had viewed on day 1. It is in a security complex, quite similar to Adelaide Street St Marys where there are only 5-6 homes in the one complex, has enough backyard to lock the kids out haha, and enough rooms for Sean to have an office. The best part would actually be that we love the look of the suburb, main street, school, close to medical centre, has a country feel, we just got a good vibe from it and that was enough for me..
Judy must have had a feeling that we would like this property as she had already pre-arranged an appointment with the St Peters school. This went well, we were given a tour by the principal who’s name is Mrs Charles. Laura thought this was quite funny being that we are now living where the queen lives and had not too long before been talking about Prince Charles!!! I said well I guess we won’t forget the principal’s name will we…. I think the kids will be very happy at St Peters, Laura may take a while to adjust but I’m sure will be fine. I’m hoping it is exactly what Harry needs, the classes are smaller and each one has a teachers aid at all times as well so the one on one attention from the teacher will be right up Harry’s alley!!! It would be half the size of Oxley Park and has a very family orientated feel to it.
We managed to squeeze in lunch at Macdonalds somewhere in our travels today so the kids loved that – first maccas since leaving oz – and yes we dropped some home for the boys….
